In a recent survey, 52 percent of people polled in the UK said they believe in the supernatural. Past figures have shown that only a reported 40 percent believed in such during studies done in both 2005 and 2009.
Polling company YouGov conducted the study and found that one in five claimed they had some type of paranormal experience. Findings also revealed that fewer people think UFOs are real. Back in 2008, 52 percent had hope in alien life forms, now in the most recent poll, only 39 percent do.
The spike in how many believe is thought to be more than the historical average. "It could be that in a society which has seen economic uncertainty and is dominated by information and technology, more people are seeking refuge in the paranormal, whereas in the past they might have sought that in religion," Dave Wood, the chairman of the Association for the Scientific Study of Anomalous Phenomena, said to the Telegraph.
